The Design emphasis includes foundational classes in 2 Dimensional and 3 Dimensional Design as well as a selection of Graphic Design classes. These include both print and web based design approaches. Course include: Typography, Graphic Communications, Design Problems, Design for the Internet and Graphic Design I and II. The courses are instructed predominantly with software from the Adobe Creative Suite, which includes Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
The courses focus on the fundamentals of two-dimensional design and the history and practice of visual communication. Students undertake projects which encompass a wide variety of approaches ranging from traditional media to digital imaging and layout applications. Advanced projects cover practical case studies such as corporate identity, poster and brochure layout, while emphasizing the relationship between information, identity and culture.
The design lab is equipped with current hardware and software for both graphic design and digital photography. The graphics lab is also open for general student use 20-30 hours a week.
