Jasmine Little - Giant Rock, 1999 - Graduate Thesis Exhibition

Jasmine Little Dying Palm Tree, Los Angeles, 2007 (detail)

"The thesis body of work, Giant Rock, 1999, addresses memory through a series of large scale oil paintings on canvas depicting two main components: figures and landscape. The figures depicted represent the artist in ways that question concepts of portraiture and self-portraiture. The landscape is used to ground the narrative in space and time. The paintings are based on still lives of clay modeled scenes and figures depicting events from the artist's memory. "

ASU photography students’ work will be shown at North Country Community College Mezzanine Gallery, Malone Campus, SUNY at the same time. Assistant Professor O. Gustavo Plascencia from ASU and Associate Professor Tina LaMour from NCCC Malone organized the exchange.

Professor Plascencia said “An exchange is a great opportunity for our students to have their work shown further afield and to see and discuss the work of other students. ASU’s Art Dept works hard to help our students build skills that will be important in their professional lives and exhibiting is a big part of that."
