The Painting area consists of two seven-hundred square foot studios. One is dedicated to beginning painting, the other to advanced levels of painting. It also includes a loft area which accommodates up to four graduate students. The current area also includes a wood shop containing power and hand tools for use in constructing stretchers and frames.

The painting program is separated into three groups.

The first level course (AR220) is an introduction to painting consisting of studio problems which explore basic formal elements and techniques associated with various painting media.

The second course (AR 320) is an intermediate study of painting with an emphasis on perceptual abilities and personal expression.

The third level of coursework, including AR 321, 422, and 423, explore advanced studio problems and personal development within different painting mediums and formats.
