My life has been full of adventures of heart, mind, sports, and travel. I am the first in my family to finish elementary school since my parents only had 2nd and 4th grade educations. I taught them to read, write, and do math when I took my homework home in elementary school.

Both of them valued education and planted in me the lifelong curiosity and willingness to work hard to learn all that I could. I still enjoy learning every day and my students help me to learn.

I became married and had a son in my sophomore year of college. I started as a music major, trombone, and thought that would be my career since I was studying with the first chair of the San Francisco Symphony and was in the SF junior symphony.

After a year as a music major I discovered many other fun subjects and started several majors ending up with a BA in communications/general semantics and later my MBA from San Francisco State.

I worked full time while going to college full time for almost 15 years. I completed my doctorate at University of Colorado in Business and Economics and fell in love with the mountains and rivers. My first wife finished all but her dissertation as well.

I used to spend my summers as a white water river guide in the west while being an academic during the fall and spring.

As a scoutmaster for over a decade I enjoyed the outdoors with my son and both of my step daughters including Philmont scout ranch and several 14,000 peaks.

I used to do competitive weight lifting, handball, and lots of skiing. As a result I have had both my hips and both of my knees replaced, along with other long term aches and pains. As a victim of childhood second hand smoke you will see me around the building carrying oxygen.

I have loved teaching since first teaching a MBA marketing management course in 1970. Instead of one doctoral field I completed several, including marketing, economics, management science, and systems design.

I have taught in all of those fields at Adams, and prior to that at the University of Colorado, Metro state, and The Colorado College.

My adventures include being a senior administrator at the Colorado Commission on Higher Education, higher education budget analyst for the Colorado legislature, being elected to the Colorado State Board of Education, and serving on the State Board for all community colleges in Colorado.

I have always studied the education industry through the discipline of business and economics. Consulting has taken me around the USA and to more than a dozen countries including Japan, Europe and New Zealand.

I have raised millions of dollars for school districts in the San Luis Valley and have directed 21st Century summer and after school programs.

Long a fan of education technology I continue to see it as the best way to make education more productive, individualized and fun. You can learn more about me at www.edlyell.com
