Note: This emphasis
exceeds the necessary coursework to meet the "highly qualified" requirement
as set forth by the State of Colorado. It does not, however, meet the
recommendations of the Mathematical Association of America for someone pursuing
a career as a high school teacher (9-12), nor does it meet the requirements for
secondary licensure in all states (i.e. a true B.A. in Mathematics).
This degree
track is designed to meet the needs of middle school teachers, would provide
adequate preparation for a high school teacher in a rural environment, and
exceeds the 24-credit hours of content benchmark set by the State of Colorado
for secondary licensure.
