Academic Computing Instructional Designer

The Academic Computing Instructional Designer is a full-time, 12-month, at-will/exempt position that reports to the Academic Computing and Technology Coordinator. The position provides leadership and course design assistance to full-time tenure-track and adjunct faculty, both on and off campus.
Adams State College is the Regional Education Provider for southern Colorado, as well as a federally designated Hispanic Serving Institution. With over 2,000 undergraduate students enrolled in 17 majors and over 50 minors and areas of emphasis, Adams State is recognized for offering outstanding academic programs and high-quality personal attention.
Position Description:
The duties of this position are to:
- Provide direct design assistance and support to instructors developing online. Hybrid, or supplemental courses.
- Apply adult learning theory and instructional design methodology while utilizing appropriate technology to develop courses for both online and face to face delivery.
- Provide ongoing and systematic support to instructors to help assure course integrity.
- Provide technical assistance and support in the development of new instructional methods for online, hybrid, and supplemental education delivery.
- Assist department chairs in evaluating the effectiveness of technologically delivered instruction.
- Coordinates the usability testing of online learning materials, online courses, and online programs.
- Works with instructors to develop appropriately unified course format and packaging to provide students with seamless and user friendly online learning as they take different courses.
Qualifications:
- MA in Instructional Design or Educational Technology or related field; PhD preferred.
- Three years experience in teaching and/or developing distance-delivered courses.
- Three years experience developing CD-based instruction.
- Proficient in HTML.
- Experience with Blackboard and/or WebCT course management systems preferred.
- Demonstrate experience with the use of instructional design principles and pedagogical strategies to enhance learning.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Successful applicant must possess good problem solving, collaboration, and planning skills, and be willing to work in a team environment.
- Ability to work with staff with diverse backgrounds and perspectives on the use of technology in a variety of learning environments.
- Successful applicant must have strong organizational skills and be able to manage time independently.
- All candidates who are invited to ASC for the interview process will present a current instructional design template and demonstrate the integration of best practices for online learning into a course shell.
- Ability to perform outlined job description.
Salary:
$45,000 - $50,000 annual salary, depending on experience; Adams State College offers a competitive benefits package.
