Recycled Product Expo

Back by popular demand, ASC Community Partnerships is hosting the 2nd annual Recycle Art Exhibit and Fashion Show during the month of November (November 2nd through November 25, 2009). In conjunction with America Recycles Day, the Recycle Art Exhibit features work by artists and crafts people from around the San Luis Valley. The exhibit highlights the use of recycled, re-used, or re-purposed materials.

Paired with the Exhibit will be a reception and Recycle Fashion Show on Friday, November 13, 2009 from 4-6pm. The fashion show will begin at 5pm. ASC students will model outfits and accessories they and community volunteers made from recycled material. Come join us for the Exhibit, reception, and fashion show to see the creative uses of recycled materials and ways to be more innovative with discarded materials. Learn about ways to reduce waste and re-purpose material.

The Exhibit, reception, and fashion show are all held at the ASC Community Partnerships building on the ASC Campus (Corner of Main and Edgemont Blvd in Alamosa, CO). Contact Community Partnerships at 719.587.8227 with questions.

Dia de los Muertos

Transformations Begin Here

In celebration of the Day of the Dead, Adams State College Community Partnerships is hosting "Remembrance: Dia de los Muertos" exhibit throughout the month of October in their art gallery. The Exhibit will feature memorials of lost loved ones of families from the San Luis Valley.

Day of the Dead is a traditional, well-known time of remembrance for families and the loved ones they have lost. With roots in Mexico and Latin America, this day is celebrated throughout the world. The Exhibit will be open Thursday, October 1 through Friday, October 30, 2009. Gallery hours are Monday – Friday, 9am to 5pm.

In conjunction with the Day of the Dead exhibit, there will be a book signing for author Kathy T. Hettinga's book, Grave Images of the San Luis Valley (Photos and text by Hettinga). The signing and exhibit reception will be at the ASC Community Partnerships gallery Tuesday, October 20 from 4:00pm – 6:30pm. ASC Community Partnerships is located in Alamosa at the corner of Main and Edgemont Blvd. Call 587-7230 with questions.

From August 4th to August 28th, 2009, ASC Community Partnerships is showcasing the works of local weavers in the 3rd Annual "Weavers of the Valley" exhibit. The exhibit celebrates the cultural diversity of the valley, showcasing a wide variety of styles from weavers of varying backgrounds. The show is freely available to the public Monday-Wednesday, 9-5, at the Community Partnerships Gallery on the corner of Main Street and Edgemont. An artist's reception will be held on Thursday, August 20th, from 4-6 p.m.

This show is part of the Autumn at Adams Festivities, continuing the event's theme of transformations and bringing it into artistic form. Many art pieces will be on display from both the students and the community. Please check this page for more information on both the show and Autumn at Adams as a whole. The show will be open starting September 1st and ending on September 30th, 2009. Artwork will be collected on August 26, 27th, and 28th.

Novela Project Art Exhibit

From June 17th to July 17th, ASC Community Partnerships will host an exhibit centered around the Novela Project. The Novela Project seeks to gather the written and oral history of the San Luis Valley in an effort to identify and display the local culture, culminating in a stage production about the history of the SLV. The works shown at the exhibit are representations of the Novela Project's goals, showing strongly the unique culture of the valley. A reception is being held on July 10th, 2009, from 3-7 p.m.

Art Teacher Show

ASC Community Partnerships will be featuring the art work of art teachers from around the Valley in the Art Teacher Art Show during the month of May. While students have many venues to display their artwork, our teachers have fewer options. Stop by ASC Community Partnerships Gallery and view the wonderful work of these teachers. After all, before they were teachers they were artists... Introduce your friends and family to the creative work done by our teachers. Work from art teachers around the Valley will be featured; many of the Valley's schools will be represented in the show. The show is located at ASC Community Partnerships building (Adams State Campus, corner of Main and Edgemont Blvd.) and will open Wednesday, May 6th 2009 and run through Tuesday, May 26th 2009. A reception for the show will be held Thursday, May 14 from 4pm-6pm. Gallery hours: Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm. Come enjoy the artwork and support our local teachers/artists!

Climate Change Art Challenge

Adams State College Community Partnerships invites you to attend the Opening Reception for the Climate Change Challenge Art Show, March 28th from 11am-2pm. The Climate Change Challenge art exhibit will feature San Luis Valley high school students' artistic responses to the question, "What does climate change mean to you?" Come enjoy refreshments, view the exhibit, and meet the artists. Also featured at the reception will be Melissa Larson, long time recycling advocate from Taos, NM. Melissa will be working with Community Partnerships and community members to create a "Waste Quilt," using cast off materials, which will be used for education throughout the San Luis Valley. Bring your friends and family and join us in adding your own creations to the quilt! The Art Exhibit and Opening Reception will be located at the ASC Community Partnerships Building (Corner of Main and Edgemont in Alamosa). ASC Community Partnerships and New Beginnings Art Project

Community Partnerships partnered with New Beginnings with an art project idea that would promote their program through their "Creative Tuesdays" mental wellness class. Centerpieces would be hand made for the Rural Philanthropy Days that takes place in the Valley only once in four years. We paid for the art supplies, provided instruction and coordinated the concept through Philanthropy Day planning committee.

New Beginnings is a branch of the San Luis Valley Mental Health Center in Alamosa, Colorado, working with people who have chronic and persistent mental illness and those who have found that for some reason their lives have been put on hold and are trying hard to create a life that works for them. The Creative Expressions Class offers each student an opportunity to learn and to practice using their creativity to become a better problem solver. Finally, this class is specifically designed to enhance and to enrich each student's personal life.

Result: Centerpieces got great responses at the event and founders were interested in buying them. New Beginnings is interested in working with us in developing a social enterprise around their "Creative Tuesdays" class to teach clients entrepreneurialism, promote their program and bring in program income for sustainability and diversification of funding.

Community Partnership's Arts and Culture program is made possible through a grant from the Colorado Council of the Arts.
