Library - Student Jobs
NIELSEN LIBRARY accepts work-study applications for the Circulation, Periodicals,
Interlibrary Loan,and Patron -Placed Holds departments. Applications are available at
the Circulation Desk on the 1st floor of the Library. Applicants MUST be available to
work for at least 3 semesters.
1) CIRCULATION:Students in the Circulation Departmentwork at the Circulation Desk on the 1st floor, including some evenings and weekends. Duties include creating and editing patron accounts, checking out books and equipment, checking out and managing interlibrary loans, patron-placed holds and course reserves, organizing and shelving library materials, and shelf-reading duties as assigned. Students must be detail-oriented and be able to provide excellent customer service. Library experience and knowledge of Library of Congress Call Numbers is preferred.
2) PERIODICALS: Students in the Periodicals Department help with the day-to-day
operations of the department. Duties include checking in periodicals, organizing
periodicals,and assisting with related projects. Applicants are expected to be
responsible and pay careful attention to detail. Experience with Microsoft Excel a plus.
3) PATRON-PLACED HOLDS: Student works with the Library Technician in charge of Prospector patron-placed holds and book inventory. Duties include utilizing Circulation software to process borrowing requests from other libraries, retrieving and checking books, record-keeping using Excel, and preparing books to send out on the library courier system. Other duties include scanning book barcodes and producing reports for review by supervisor.
4) INTERLIBRARY LOAN: Student in the ILL office works with the Access Services Librarian to process incoming and outgoing materials. Duties include retrieving andsending loans and copies to fulfill lending requests, updating requests in the database, filing requests, shelving materials, and updating ILL statistics.Interlibrary Loan experience and knowledge of Library of Congress Call Numbers is preferred.
