Rainbows End Community Thrift Store Staff

Job description

Rainbows End Mission Statement:
Rainbow’s End is a community thrift store providing earned income to La Puente Home through the resale of second-hand goods and carrying a secondary purpose of providing employment, employment training opportunities and outreach assistance to the homeless and community members in crisis.
La Puente Home is a nonprofit, community service organization providing emergency shelter, food assistance, transitional housing, self-sufficiency services, homeless prevention, community outreach service, and job readiness training for the homeless and community members in crisis.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Quality control of all items donated to Rainbow’s End.
  • Set up and mainta in a system for sorting, tagging, pricing, and display of donated items.
  • Set up and maintain a schedule for all pick-ups of items donated. Set up and maintain a schedule of all items sold that need to be delivered.
  • Daily routine store activities of cash register, receiving donations, outreach, store cleanup, etc.
  • Supervise other Rainbow’s End staff and volunteers; support co-workers who are participants in Job Readiness Training.
  • Duties specific to one’s talents or deemed necessary by manager.
  • Provide public relations s upport for La Puente Home.

Operations:
Work Study Students, Americorps Volunteers, and Employees are responsible for overall cleanliness, orderliness, maintenance and presentation of the store. Envision the direction of Rainbow’s End and set goals and plans to achieve it.

Qualifications:

The qualified applicant will be hard working, able to handle busy or stressful situations, open to learning new skills and able to follow and give direction. Have ability to handle money and maintain daily reports as assigned by manager. Maintain the high standard of ethics and moral values of La Puente Enterprises. Ability to lift 50+pounds. Customer service skills.

Work Location:
Rainbow’s End is located in the heart of Alamosa at 510 Main St, and in Monte Vista at 154 Adams.

Training:
Training will consist of up to 5 days supervised work, or more if required, and an orientation of La Puente programs.

Supervisor: Work Study Student, Americorps Volunteers, and Employees report to the Rainbows End Manager.

Food Bank Staff

Job description

The Food Bank Network of the San Luis Valley endeavors to meet the immediate needs of and to empower people to live independently with dignity. Toward this end we provide emergency food packages in 13 San Luis Valley co mmunities, seek to understand the roots of hunger and malnutrition and the solutions, and educate San Luis Valley communities about hunger needs and responses.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Receive and record foods donated to the food bank.
  • Pick up food from donors when necessary.
  • Daily trips to Safeway.
  • Deliver food to other agencies as well as satellite food pantries in the valley when needed.
  • Bag bulk food items when needed.
  • Conduct intake interviews and process clients to receive food.
  • File client paperwork and tracking statistical information and recording in a computer database.
  • Assist other food bank personnel with maintenance and cleanliness of building and all associated equipment.
  • Mark food items and stock shelves for distribution as needed. Conduct inventories as needed.
  • Operate a pallet jack and forklift at the storage facility.
  • Assist with the distribution of USDA commodity foods to low income residents of Alamosa County.
  • Answering phones and taking messages...always identifying yourself by name.
  • Prepare and present appropriate health, nutrition, and fitness talks or programs for local schools, service organizations, or church groups as needed.
  • Assist with directing, supervising, and instruction of community volunteers assigned to work at the food bank.
  • Perform any other appropriate duties as the director may require ensuring harmonious and efficient operation of the food bank system.

Skills Necessary:

  • The willingness to work as a team - flexibility and a can do attitude.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • People skills

Helpful Skills:

  • The ability to speak Spanish...any knowledge is useful.
  • Operating a forklift and pallet jack.

Overview of Job Environment:
The Administration Offices include the Director of La Puente, the Grant Writer, the Accounting Department-the Financial Director, Payroll Clerk, Accounts Payable Clerk, and Accounting Clerk, and the Administrative Assistant and Receptionist. Business associates, clients, guests, volunteers, donors and many others visit these offices. It is a busy, sometimes chaotic environment of multiple visitors and continuous phone calls.

Office Clerk/Receptionist Responsibilities
  • Public Relations – The front office is the main greeter to all visitors and phone calls, and many times, it is the first introduction to La Puente Home. It is imperative to use your best communication skills to greet visitors. To help and assist with the inquiries and needs of those we meet. Kindness and patience are essential, representing La Puente with the highest integrity and dignity.
  • Information Center – Full time responsible coverage of the phones and front office is necessary. Make every effort to be knowledgeable and informative about our programs and resources, familiarity of operations and special events so you may assist in visitors or phone call inquiries. Ability to direct, transfer or assist visitors and telephone calls. Writing and delivering messages accurately and timely. Assisting with receipt of donations, and proper disbursements of items to departments.
  • Duties – Most of the time is used answering phones and responding to visitors that come in. Some of the duties include, but not limited to, communications with donors (thank you notes, letters, tax certificates, phone calls). Create, update and distribute office records, brochures, and publications. Assist with events or programs as needed. Archive historical documents, articles and photographs. Update billboards and calendars. Sort and distribute mail, check inventory, make office supply orders. Provide purchase orders, when needed place and/or pick up merchandise. Filing for multiple offices. Occasional general cleaning of office and environment.

Requirements and Skills:
Organizational skills, able to do multi-tasking, good verbal and written communication skills, including neatness and accuracy. Experience with office machines – fax, copier, calculator, and multi-telephone system. Computer literate – Internet and email, Microsoft Office, Word, Publisher and Excel. Spanish language skills helpful.

Administrative Office To Do List:

  • Thank you cards, envelopes, stamped receipts, and stamped enterprise zone tax certificates
  • Mail–pickup or deliver
