Interlibrary Loan Policies
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a privilege that comes with rights and responsibilities for the user (that's you) and the library. Please read these carefully before submitting an ILL request. Thanks in advance for your consideration.
Responsibilities
- COPYRIGHT - You must comply with copyright. Any request which appears to violate copyright will be questioned before it is processed. If you have questions, please see our pages on copyright, or contact the Interlibrary Loan office at 587-7173.
- NOTIFICATION - When you are notified that an item has arrived, you need to pick it up. Failure to follow through with a loan request (e.g., failing to respond to an email or phone call; not picking up an item) may result in the loss of your right to request future items. It's okay to have a change of plans but please just let us know.
- DEADLINES - It is your job to pay attention to due dates for those items that need to be returned. Some items may be renewed, but the renewal must be requested before the original due date has passed. Please plan ahead and return all materials on time.
- RESPECT - Materials must be kept in the best condition possible. Borrowing materials from other libraries is a privilege; one we hope to maintain. Treating materials badly may result in your having to pay for the item and in having your future borrowing privileges blocked. We know accidents happen, but please be careful.
Rights
- PRIVACY - Your privacy in ordering materials is observed in every respect. Paper and electronic files are secured and kept private to the best of our ability.
- RESPECT - The Nielsen Library staff understands and respects your need for materials not owned by our library.
ASU Students, Staff and Faculty
- PREAPPROVAL - Requests for more than 5-items-per-week need advance approval. The following materials always require approval prior to ordering: maps, dissertations, microform (e.g., microfiche), rare or archival materials, artifacts, reference materials, models or foreign language materials. Contact the Interlibrary Loan office at 719-587-7173 or send an e-mail to ill@adams.edu.
- AVAILABILITY - Returnable materials (e.g., books) that are available on Marmot Global will be returned to you with instructions on how to order them using our Marmot Catalog.
- REASONABLENESS - All orders need to be "reasonable." Reasonable can be translated as submitting no more than 5 requests per week. If you have a project that requires more than this, please speak with the ILL office first.
- PURPOSE - Materials that are relevant to your academic success will be given priority. Materials for personal use are fine but may be given a lower priority during busy times of the year.
- DEFERRED REQUESTS - ILL reserves the right to defer requests. These requests will be turned back to you (with an explanation) for submission at a later date. The most common reason for this is that the desired item is too recently published for us to borrow.
- COST - Most items can be obtained at no charge to you; however, please keep in mind that the library spends roughly $25.00 to process each request -- even though there may not be a cost to you.
- QUESTIONS - Always feel free to contact the ILL office with any questions. You may call 719-587-7173 or send e-mail to ill@adams.edu. You may also stop by the office in person. We are located on the first floor of the library.
SLV Community and Non-ASU Students
- LIMITS - You may request up to three books or journal articles at a time. There are restrictions on journal article requests -- please talk with Mary before placing an order.
- PRIORITY - We are pleased to offer our ILL service to the SLV community, but we must give priority to Adams State students, faculty and staff.
- NON-ASU STUDENTS - If you are not an ASC student, (e.g., TSJC, CU Online, University of Phoenix, Alamosa High School, etc.) you are encouraged to use the ILL services provided by your school library or your public library.
- QUESTIONS - Always feel free to contact the ILL office with any questions. You may call 719-587-7173 or send e-mail to ill@adams.edu. You may also stop by the office in person. We are located on the first floor of the library.
