Questions answered about Web 2.0 at next ASC faculty lecture (04-01-09)

Web 2.0 and social media is changing the way we use the Internet. The April 15 faculty lecture, "What You Should Know About Web 2.0", Paul Mascarenas, Nielsen Library reference librarian; Mark Schoenecker, Adams State director of communications; and Nancy Trimm, head of reference and instructional services for Mesa County Public Libraries; begins at 7:00 p.m. in Porter Hall room 130. Social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace and user generated sites like Wikipedia, YouTube, and Podcasts are the predominate examples of Web 2.0 applications. These web-based communities define how users communicate, collaborate, and receive information.

Mascarenas, Trimm, and Schoenecker will discuss Web 2.0 including the practical applications on a college campus as well as how it can improve workplace communication, provide "just-in-time training," and increase organizational efficiency.

All talks are free and the public is invited. Complimentary light refreshments will be offered. For further information on the series of lectures, contact Dr. Robert Astalos, assistant professor of physics, at 719-587-7821, or by email: rjastalos@adams.edu.
