Valley Community Chorus concert is May 3 (04-21-09)

The Valley Community Chorus will be performing "The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace" by Karl Jenkins at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, May 3, in Richardson Hall Auditorium. In addition to using the traditional Latin Mass texts in this powerful work, Jenkins includes texts from across time that reflect the horrors of war.

All donations and proceeds from the concert will go towards the non-profit organization Central Asia Institute. This organization was co-founded by Greg Mortenson, author of "Three Cups of Tea". Its mission is to promote and support community-based education, especially for girls, in remote regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Vocal soloists include Michelle Richardson, Christine Haslett, Kathy Park, David Schneider, Martin Jay McKee and Erich Schwiesow; and instrumentalists include Tracy Doyle, flute and piccolo; James Doyle, percussion; Cedric Lindsay and Phil Ortega, trumpets; Joy Plesner, viola; Barbara Heersink, piano.

Admission is $5 adults/$1 children/Free to AS&F and Friends of Music. For more information call the Adams State College Music Department at 719-587-7621.
