Armando Valdez and Richard Vallone, assistant professors of business at Adams State College, recently published their article, "Using Partnerships to Create Opportunity in Inopportune Times", in the winter 2009 publication, "AUPHA Exchange", a publication of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration. The professors were instrumental in creating the health care administration program at Adams State and recently formed a partnership with Pueblo Community College to offer the courses to the Pueblo campus.
When establishing the program, on both campuses, the professors reached out to local health care facilities. In the Alamosa area, they created an advisory board, which includes the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center and Valley Wide Health Systems, to develop guidelines for the health administration program at Adams State. According to Vallone, health care facilities in the Pueblo area are just as willing to offer services for the new program at PCC.
"Armando and I are committed to offering students at Adams State, the San Luis Valley and the Pueblo community an opportunity to pursue careers in the health administration field," Vallone said. "Careers in that area are well-paid and growing in demand every year."
