Epilepsy: Facts, Figures, and First Aid is subject of February 25 ASC faculty lecture (02-13-09)

Epilepsy affects thousands of Coloradans, Adams State College Dr. Gina Mitchell, assistant professor of psychology, will help explain epilepsy in her faculty lecture "Epilepsy and Epilepsy Training" at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, in Porter Hall (the science building) room 130.
Epilepsy is a neurological disorder that affects 43,000 Coloradans. It is characterized by a tendency to have recurrent seizures. Seizures occur when there is a brief excessive electrical discharge in the brain. Seizures can lead to altered consciousness, automatic behavior, brief stares, muscle spasms, and convulsions. Seizures can be scary events, but knowing how to identify and respond to seizures can make the difference.
This training will teach participants background epilepsy information, how to identify seizures, and how to respond to seizures. The training is appropriate for anyone affected by epilepsy or anyone interested in learning more about epilepsy.
