Honor festival concerts begin February 18
The "Top of the Nation" Honor Band and Honor Choir Festival begins February 18 through February 20 at Adams State College. More than 250 students from over 30 schools throughout the State of Colorado will come together to participate in this festival. Both the Honor Band and Honor Choir concerts are Saturday, February 20. The band performs at noon in Richardson Hall, and the choir will perform at 2 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church, in Alamosa.
Stoney Black, director of bands at Air Academy High School, Colorado Springs, is the guest conductor for the wind ensemble, and Adams State music faculty, Dr. Jamie VanValkenburg and James Doyle, will conduct the concert band. The guest conductor for the mixed choir is Dr. Peter Jarjisian, director of choral activities at Ohio University, and Dr. Beth Wagstrom, Adams State music faculty, will conduct the women's choir.
In addition to the honor band and choir performances, performances by Adams State students and faculty are scheduled. A faculty recital starts at 2:30 p.m. with 68 West performing at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, in Leon Memorial Hall. The Adams State Concert and Chamber choirs will perform at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, at Sacred Heart Church, in Alamosa. The honor choir will join the ASC choirs for an arrangement of the spiritual "Great Day" to end this program.
