La Familia Vigil to perform at Adams State
An evening of musical enjoyment begins at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, in the Adams State College Luther Bean Museum. The event is free to the public and will feature the Vigil Family of El Rito, N.M.
The multi-talented family has played music of the southwest for the past twenty years and is led by Dr. Cipriano Vigil, emeritus professor of music at Northern New Mexico Community College in Espanola, N.M. His daughter, Felicita, and son, Cipriano, help form a vibrant musical trio performing a broad panorama of Hispanic folk, ritual and popular melodies that have become a standard for traditional music of the region.
Additional highlights for the evening will include performances by Las Hermanas Quintana (Amanda and Jackie) of Santa Fe, N.M., and Salomon Lopez of San Antonio, Colo., who will be recognized for their accomplished musical contributions to their communities. Salomon will be accompanied by his niece, Rose Vialpando.
This program is made possible by Hilos Culturales and is co-sponsored by Semillas de la Tierra, Valley Wide Health Systems, Kavely's Business and Tech Center, SLV Federal Bank, Papers of Distinction and the Adams State Luther Bean Museum.
