ASC Water Update 5:45 p.m.

(03-21-2008)

City water users WILL be able to shower, wash laundry, and flush toilets while the water system is being flushed, said Public Works Director/Acting City Manager Don Koskelin at a City Council work session Friday afternoon. Adams State College will remain open, according to Provost Dr. Michael Mumper.

Koskelin emphasized ONLY BOTTLE WATER SHOULD BE USED FOR DRINKING & FOOD PREP during the system flush. The flush will not begin before Tuesday, in order to give all residents 24-36 hour notice of the procedure. The city has not yet announced when the flush will begin, however. Water will not be shut off, and in fact, it is important that water users run water through their systems for disinfection, Koskelin said.

Colorado Governor Bill Ritter declared a state of emergency in Alamosa Friday, freeing additional resources to address the problem.

The ASC Water website is being updated as soon as new information on the city water restriction becomes available. College administrators request that everyone attempt to reduce false rumors by referring to this site.
