WCC Fashion Show benefits Adams State nursing student
The GFWC Woman's Citizenship Club of Alamosa raised $2000 for an Adams State College nursing scholarship with a fashion show and dinner on April 24.
The club is a member of the Colorado Federation of Women's Clubs and General Federation of Women's Clubs, an international volunteer organization of women dedicated to improving their communities through service projects.
The GFWC Woman's Citizenship Club Scholarship will be awarded to a nursing student at Adams State who meets the requirements including being a non-traditional student who is a resident of the San Luis Valley and who has been accepted into the Nursing Program.
According to Christine Caton, president of the club, the goal was to raise $2000. "Our club members worked closely with the Adams State College Foundation to establish the scholarship," Caton said. "We support the nursing program and would like to see it grow." She said the club plans on making the fundraiser an annual event.
Bessie Konishi organized the fashion show and said it was an opportunity to see the latest in women's fashions.
The club received over 28 donations from individuals and organizations for door prizes and goody bags given away during the evening.
Last year the GFWC Woman's Citizenship Club of Alamosa raised $5000, to purchase a Heifer Gift Ark. Heifer International is a nonprofit dedicated to ending hunger throughout the world.
