Earth science students research presented professionally (05-12-09)

Dr. Jared Beeton, Lyle Carbutt , and Dr. Rob Benson

Lyle Carbutt received the Ed Ryan Outstanding Earth Science Student Award for his exceptional efforts, during the Adams State College 2008/2009 academic year, from Dr. Rob Benson, associate professor of geology, and Dr. Jared Beeton, assistant professor of earth science, at the second annual Earth Science Poster Symposium on May 1.

The posters symposium was a requirement for all of Beeton's earth science students. He said the students were expected to follow the same guidelines as professionals presenting for the Geology Society of America or the Association of American Geographers. Posters are a primary way scientists share their research with their peers, including publishing articles and presenting at a national conference. This summer, Beeton will take groups of students to the Rocky Mountain National Park and along the Rio Grande in the San Luis Valley for field research.
