Green home construction offered by Habitat for Humanity and Adams State

Are you interested in building your own environmentally friendly home?Are thinking of getting into the construction industry? Habitat For Humanity, the Adams State College AmeriCorps Program, and ASC Community Partnerships are offering a workshop that can give you the experience you need.

These workshops provide hands-on experience in constructing a low-energy adobe home, while helping with the San Luis Valley's housing situation. The workshops provide experience in the use of ecologically sound materials, energy efficiency, basic construction skills, and teamwork in a standard construction environment.

This three-day workshop is scheduled from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Thursday, May 19, through Saturday, May 21. The first session will briefly meet in the Community Partnerships Building, located on the corner of Main Street and Edgemont Blvd, before moving to the Habitat For Humanity worksite.

College students and community members are welcome attend these workshops. Students can register for the course Habitat4Humanity Green Home, ID 179, CRN: 14759. Community members may sign up by contacting Karl Jolliff at 719-587-8209. A $35 fee is required for the workshop, to cover training and other workshop expenses.
