Gender communication topic of November 11 Adams State Faculty Lecture (10-30-2009)

The Adams State College Faculty Lecture Series continues with "He Said, She Said: Gender Communication and Sexual Harassment", by Dr. Brent King, assistant professor of psychology, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, in Porter Hall (the science building) room 130. The event is free and open to the public.

Recently, research was completed at Adams State that provided information about the climate of sexual harassment on the campus. Some of the results of this study suggest that one way to address sexual harassment is to closely examine how men and women communicate. Further, these results show that men and women approach interactions with each other with very different viewpoints on what behaviors are acceptable and what behaviors are "over the line." This talk will examine the results of the current study as well as many other studies that investigated how men and women communicate. We will discuss theories of gender communication, misperceptions that occur between genders, and how these misperceptions can lead to numerous work and personal difficulties.

All talks are free and the public is invited. Complimentary light refreshments will be offered. For further information on the series of lectures, contact Dr. Robert Astalos, assistant professor of physics, at 719-587-7821, or by email: rjastalos@adams.edu.
