Opera rocks the Rockies

(10-24-2012)

Brush up your Shakespeare while enjoying the energy and talents of six up-and-coming classical singers performing favorites from Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Falstaff, West Side Story, Kiss Me Kate and other hits inspired by the Bard of Stratford on Avon. Central City Opera and CU Opera present Opera As You Like It, scenes from Operas and Musicals based on the works of Shakespeare at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, in the Adams State University Leon Memorial Hall.

Central City Opera, the Rocky Mountain West’s longest running performing arts company, has been bringing concert and school programs to communities large and small for over thirty years. From intimate house concerts to master classes for aspiring local young singers to programs for an entire school or community population or anything in between, these programs are always professional, entertaining, and educational. Central City Opera partners once a year with CU Opera to produce the Opera Rocks the Rockies tour to selected areas.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors and are available at the ASU Music Department Office. A masterclass, free and open to the public, will be held at 3 p.m. the same day in Leon Memorial Hall. For more information call 719-587-7621.
