Immigration Awareness Week hosted by ASC Newman Club

The Adams State College Newman Club, in collaboration with the Immigrant Resource Center and La Puente, is hosting "No More Deaths", a week to raise awareness about immigration across the US-Mexico border, one of the most highly controversial issues facing our country. Events are scheduled from Monday, October 11 through Thursday, October 14.

The week starts Monday October 11 with an immigration simulation and discussion. Attendees will learn the cumbersome process for legal immigration into this country, with an immigration lawyer on hand to answer questions. Tuesday, October 12, the documentary "7 Soles" will be shown followed by a discussion. Two local individuals will share dramatic personal stories of crossing the border on Wednesday, October 13, ICE and the Immigrant Resource Center will be present for comment during the discussion.

A noontime presentation on human trafficking, as it relates to immigration, is scheduled for Thursday October 14, hosted by Tu Casa. Pizza will be provided. That evening, is a candlelight vigil to honor those who have died searching for a better life. The vigil begins at 6 p.m. with a talk by Dr. Mari Centeno, professor of government.

With the exception of Thursday, all events begin at 7 p.m. in the Student Life Center of the Student Union Building. The community is invited to attend. For further information, contact 719-587-7516.
