Colorado Attorney General to address Justice Conference at ASC
Colorado Attorney General John Suthers will be the luncheon speaker at the Justice in the Valley symposium to be held Tuesday, Oct. 4, on the Adams State Campus. Hosted by the Adams State College Police Department, the meeting will bring together representatives of all organizations involved in the criminal justice system in the San Luis Valley.
The symposium will focus on the collaborative efforts among government, non-profit organizations, and contracted services that deal with victims and perpetrators. Judges, prosecutors, counselors, and police officers are among those invited to the conference. The event will begin at 10 a.m. with collaborative information groups and will feature selected brief presentations on topics related to how various groups can improve the justice system by working better together. Interested groups will be providing informational tables to display their role in the justice system.
Event organizer Dr. Joel Shults, Chief of ASCPD, notes that face-to-face interaction can be rare among the dozens of agencies that can be involved in criminal cases. "The path for offenders, their victims, and all of the families involved can be a long one between a reported incident and its outcome years down the road," Shults said. "Often the first person to make a record of an event is the uniformed police officer. What he or she does and how they do it will reverberate throughout the system. I thought it would be healthy if we could all be in the same room together."
