Hilos Culturales announces evening Fandango and award recipients
An evening Fandango – community dance, is scheduled by Hilos Culturales for 7 p.m. Thursday, July 24, at the Student Union Building on the Adams State University campus. Music will be provided by the popular Southwest Musicians. The Fandango engages the entire family in "La Marcha de los Novios" – Wedding March, Valses – waltzes, polcas – polkas and "Baile de la Escoba" – the Broom Dance.
The Fandango is also a culminating celebration of the Annual Hilos Summer Institute that is held in San Luis in partnership with Hilos Culturales and Adams State University. For the fourteenth year, Hilos Culturales will honor recipients of its annual "Premio Hilos Culturales" – Lifetime Achievement Award to folk artists from Colorado and New Mexico who excel in their communities as interpreters of "Música del Pasado" – music of the past. This year's recipients are David Guerrero of Pueblo, Colo. and Jesús "Chuy" Martínez of Albuquerque, NM.
Tickets are $10 and are available at Papers of Distinction and SLV Federal Bank in Alamosa, and Ventero Press in San Luis.
