Take your photography to a whole new level with three special courses being offered this fall through the Adams State University Art Department and Extended Studies Department.
Regarding the Landscape will be held for five weeks, from 6 p.m. until 7:15 p.m. on August 22 through September 21 on the Adams State campus. Through readings, lectures and discussions students will consider historical and contemporary landscape art and concepts relating to it including identity, colonization, the sublime, and conservation.
Photographing the Monumental Landscape will be held for four full days, from October 7 through October 10 at the Northern New Mexico Ghost Ranch. Following the footsteps of Georgia O’Keefe and Ansel Adams, students will receive on-site instruction of proper use of different equipment and natural lighting techniques. The $495 course fee includes lodging and meals at Ghost Ranch Education and Retreat Center, in Abiquiu, New Mexico. Travel will be by car pool. Registration for this course is through Extended Studies. Basic photography skills are required.
Printing the Monumental Landscape will be held from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. November 11 through December 9 on the Adams State campus. This course will include production/printing time after shooting at Ghost Ranch. Students will be provided with the necessary studio time and instruction to develop a cohesive and professional final portfolio. Students will be invited to submit work for a juried art exhibition in Spring 2017. This course requires participation in Photographing the Monumental Landscape.
All classes are for one credit. You may register for these classes at undergraduate or graduate level. Each class is stand-alone except Printing the Monumental Landscape.
