The Adams State University English Department will host In Memoriam: An Open-Mic Reading in Honor of Phil Ray Jack (1957-2016), instructor of English. The event begins at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at Milagros Coffee House, located at 529 Main St. in Alamosa.
According to Dr. David MacWilliams, Jack is remembered as a teacher, poet, labor advocate and friend. “I encourage writers, former and current students, friends and allies, to join us in honoring Phil’s legacy of teaching and writing.”
Each reader will be welcome to read one of Jack’s poems and a brief poem or prose piece of their own.
Jack is the author of two books of poetry, Spirit of the Horse and Other Works and Soar High. He taught at Adams State from 2012 to 2016.
