Weiner served in the Army 101st Airborne Division, 502nd Infantry regiment from 2004 to 2009, which included two tours to Iraq. He joined the Army out of high school because he wanted to serve his country and wanted to become a part of something bigger than himself.
After his time in the Army he went back to school, where he received his undergraduate degree in criminal justice and environmental studies from University of Massachusetts. In 2015, he moved to Colorado and attended law school at the University of Colorado. While he was there his friend, Maytham Alshadood, who served alongside him in Iraq, returned to Colorado on a visa. He was told that he was not a resident of Colorado nor a veteran and was not able to receive cheaper tuition. Believing this to be unfair because Alshadood risked his life just as much for this country as any other veteran, Weiner and Alshadood worked to get a law passed that made military credit count as college credit in the state of Colorado.
