Adams State University will begin offering two new programs in Public Relations, Communication and Media Studies on campus this fall and a new online program in Media Industry and Communication.
Starting in the fall of 2019, on-campus students can major in Communication and Media Studies. The broad degree will prepare them for graduate school or for media-oriented jobs in many professional fields including the media industry, education, or health care.
This fall, current and potential students can earn a bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, offered in cooperation through the English, Communication, & Media Studies Department and the School of Business. Students in this on-campus program will graduate with skills in crisis communication, strategic communication, promotional strategies, and can enter the job market in a variety of professional industries.
Students enrolled any either of the two face-to-face degrees can gain experience working for the student-run radio station, KASF-FM, or newspaper, The Paw Print.
Geared to meet the needs of working professionals who already have a bachelor’s degree, the new online Media Industry and Communication degree will assist those interested in a career change or who want advance their current professional goals. This unique online program will include video production and online practicum to learn basic skill sets used in the industry. There will also be a course about Spanish media.
All of these new Bachelor of Arts programs will be housed in the English, Communication & Media Department. Beth Bonnstetter, Ph.D., professor of communication, developed the new Bachelor of Arts degrees to meet the increased demand in the job market for media and communications professionals.
