As of July 1, Dr.
Beverlee J. McClure officially becomes Adams State University’s tenth
president, but she arrived on campus early and has already begun the work of
setting priorities and becoming acquainted with the campus and San Luis Valley
communities.
"It is an incredible honor for me to have been chosen to build on the strong foundation established for Adam State University. High quality academic and athletic programs, small classes and focus on individual students, and the San Luis Valley’s quality of life all attracted me to Adams State," McClure said. "This university has accomplished so much, and I’m excited to work with our faculty and staff and collaborate with our San Luis Valley communities to create a better future for our students."
For the last seven years, McClure served as president and CEO of the New Mexico Association of Commerce and Industry (ACI), the statewide chamber of commerce and a policy think tank for business-related issues. Previously, she served as New Mexico’s first cabinet secretary of higher education. She originally came to New Mexico as the president of Clovis Community College, having previously served as provost of the St. Augustine Campus, St. Johns River Community College in St. Augustine, Fla.
Arnold Salazar, chair of the Board of Trustees for Adams State
University, noted, "Dr. McClure has demonstrated leadership in higher
education, government service, and the private sector. This unique
combination of professional experience will be valuable in leading Adams
State University to even greater success."
McClure has been active in several organizations dedicated to improving life quality in New Mexico. She served as board chair for YES Housing, chair of the New Mexico Early Childhood Development Partnership Advisory Council, and treasurer of the New Mexico Community Capital Board. She also served on the Rio Grande Water Fund Advisory Board and the Unidos Council. She is a member of the New Mexico Women’s Forum and the New Mexico Amigos.
McClure holds a doctorate in educational administration from the University of Texas at Austin, as well as an M.B.A. from the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Texas A&M, Commerce.
