An evening Fandango – community dance, is scheduled by Hilos Culturales
for 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, in the Student Union Building on the
Adams State University campus. Music will be provided by popular
Southwest Musicians, including, William "Billy" Archuleta, guitarist, singer, composer, arranger, and performer, from Des Montes, New Mexico. Tickets may be purchased for $10 at Papers of Distinction and SLV Federal Bank in Alamosa, and Ventero Press in San Luis.
The Fandango engages the entire family in "La Marcha de los Novios" – Wedding March, Valses – waltzes, polcas – polkas and "Baile de la Escoba" – the Broom Dance.
The Fandango is also a culminating celebration of the Annual Hilos Summer Institute held in partnership with Hilos Culturales and Adams State University. For the fifteenth year, Hilos Culturales will honor recipients of its annual "Premio Hilos Culturales" – Lifetime Achievement Award to folk artists from Colorado and New Mexico who excel in their communities as interpreters of "Música del Pasado" – music of the past. This year’s recipients are Andy J. Manzanares, Los Fuertes, Colo.; Frank McCulloch, Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Jenny Wells Vincent, Taos, New Mexico.
