For 90 years Adams State University Richardson Hall has stood for access to academic excellence for the San Luis Valley and beyond. On September 8, a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrated the recent renovations to Adams State’s first structure.
President Beverlee McClure, Dr. David Svaldi, president emeritus, Arnold Salazar, ASU Board of Trustees chair, Tyler Read, project manager for GH Phipps Construction Companies, and local and state elected officials spoke of the importance of the institution and its contributions to many a "great story."
Read said GH Phipps was committed to keeping and restoring the historic aspects of the building. "Richardson Hall was described multiple times as the heart and soul of this campus and that the building needed to reflect that." He also stressed the importance of hiring as many local subcontractors as possible. "There was a great desire to make sure this project benefited the entire community. I am happy to say we were fortunate to work with several of the local tradesman, and it is in large part their dedication that made this project a success."
Along with the ribbon cutting ceremony, the audience was invited to tour the building and admire the updates to the historic building.
