The Ralph Outcalt Foundation awarded their first scholarship to Brooklyn Hogan, Buena Vista, Colo., an Adams State University incoming freshman.
According to Karla Shriver, Ralph Outcalt Foundation board member, education was important to the founder Ralph Outcalt. “He loved to see our youth excel and become better leaders for our communities.”
The full-ride scholarship can be renewed up to 4 years. “It was crazy to believe at first, but I consider it a huge blessing,” said Hogan.
In the spring Hogan toured the campus and was impressed with the Adams State nursing program. “I toured a countless number of schools in Colorado, but none felt like home until I came to Adams. I am very excited to earn my BSN degree at Adams because I know I’ll have all the skills I need to best prepare me for a career in nursing.”
Outcalt, who passed away at the age of 101, was a long-time resident and business leader of Alamosa. He owned Sorum Tractor Company, was a former board member of the Adams State University Foundation, and supported many other local non-profit organizations.
