The Adams State University Human Performance and Physical Education (HPPE) Department professors have a variety of experience and expertise. According to "Beez" Lea Ann Schell, HPPE chair and professor, the HPPE faculty are willing to share their skill set with the San Luis Valley community.
"We want to let schools, institutions, and organizations in need of advice, presentations or other areas know that we can be of service. In particular, we can share information about topics related to sport, exercise, fitness, and wellness," Schell said.
Along with Schell, professors in the HPPE Department include Dr. Brian Zuleger, assistant professor of sport psychology; Dr. Jeremy Yeats, assistant professor of physical education and teacher education; Peggy Johnson, instructor of physical education and teacher education; Dr. Tracey L. Robinson, professor of exercise science; and Aaron Tuioti-Mariner, assistant professor of sport management.
Zuleger has numerous certifications including AASP Certified Consultant, USOC Sport Psychology Registry, ACSM certified Exercise Physiologist, NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, and USATF Level-2 Coach. Zuleger offers expertise in sport psychology; coaching education; mental training; positive coaching; coach-athlete relationships; leadership; working with athletes, coaches, athletic directors and school administration; working with sports parents; positive psychology; personal training; health and wellness; fitness; elite/Olympic athletes; youth sport; high school and college sport; social responsibility/character; and research on coach-athlete relationships and coaching leadership.
Yeats will share his knowledge of physical education and teacher education; educational policy research; inequalities research; and wellness.
Johnson is a multi-sport level III certified Special Olympics coach and has worked with Special Olympic athletes for many years. She can present on adapted physical activity; Special Olympics; behavior intervention strategies; event planning; facility and risk management; physical education teacher education.
Robinson, an Adams State HPPE professor since 2001 and an ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist, has expertise in physiology of exercise and training; personal training; sport/fitness nutrition; female athlete triad and related conditions; exercise and disease prevention/management; exercise testing and prescription; and exercise and bone mineral density.
Schell would be happy to consult on women in sport; Title IX, as it relates to athletics; athletics with disabilities; women’s leadership; sociology of sport; and diversity issues in sport.
Tuioti-Mariner is proficient in ethics in sport; youth sports and local recreation sports; high school administration; coaching; legal aspects of sport; financing sport; NFHS and NCAA; economics of sport; risk management in sport; sport event management; sport marketing and public relations; media relations; leadership in sport; hazing in sport; parent rage; violence in sport; and abuse in coaching, and sportsmanship.
