Contributions to the second annual Adams State Gives Day Talent Show and Telethon will go even further thanks to the generosity of one loyal alumnus.

Paul Morley, class of 1966, has provided a $100,000 for 100 years matching gift heading into the Feb. 15 live stream internet show. Each year Adams State hosts a telethon and talent show to raise money for the University. This year’s event begins at 6 p.m. on Monday and can be viewed at adams.edu/live.

With the $100,000 for 100 Years matching gift, every $1 donated during Adams State Gives Day is matched with $3 to the general operating fund, up to a total of $100,000 in matching funds. This means a gift of $50 becomes $200 to Adams State with the $150 match to operations. Similarly, a $500 gift becomes $2,000 with a $1,500 match; and so on, up to a total $100,000 in matching gifts that will go to the Adams State general operating fund.

“I know that a college education has a real value in life, and in my experience Adams State provides a great value for an excellent education,” Morley said of why he supports Adams State. As an undergraduate student, Morley received an Adams State scholarship and he said he has “long felt a desire to repay Adams State for the guidance and education they gave me to put my life on track.”

The Adams State Gives Day Talent Show & Telethon kicks off a series of centennial celebrations for Adams State in 2021. The Alamosa City Council and Alamosa County Commission have each adopted resolutions declaring 2021 the Year of Adams State to recognize the 100 years of service the institution has provided to its hometown and the surrounding San Luis Valley.

During this year’s event, the internet audience will watch performances featuring Adams State’s Chamber Choir and Percussion Ensemble; Adams State theatre students and chemistry students; as well as performances from alumni Sky Choice and Antonio Lopez, among other performers.

Students will staff a live telephone bank to accept pledges made during the talent show. Viewers can call in a pledge to 1-844-GIVE-ASU or 844-448-3278. Or, pledges can be made before, during and after the event at Adams State Live.

Adams State Theatre Director John Taylor and alumna Diana Arias, Class of 2020, will host the show for the second straight year.

The Adams State Facebook page also will carry the event live.
