In August, Meredith Anderson, Ph.D., associate professor of mathematics, attended MathFest 2022. She presented a poster “Incorporating Math Circle Activities into Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs) in Statistics.”

Laura Bruneau, Ph.D., program chair of Counselor Education and Supervision, published “Understanding Canine-Assisted Literacy Programs: A Multiple Case Study” in the Early Childhood Education Journal. Research was conducted in Alamosa K2 Schools and included a former MA student, Shauna Ianson, and a current Ph.D. student, Jeff Tucker.

Curtis Garcia, Ph.D., associate professor and director School of Education, was recently elected chair of the governing board for Regional Education Lab (REL) Central – a subsidiary of the Institute of Education Sciences division of the U.S. Department of Education. REL Central conducts and disseminates research on best practices and policy in education within the states of Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming. As chair, Dr. Garcia will preside over meetings of the governing board and provide strategic guidance to REL Central and its partners around research priorities and projects.

Michael Liebhaber, Ph.D., assistant professor of psychology and Adams State Psi Chi Chapter advisor, received news from the Psi Chi Board of Directors and Central Office, that the Adams State chapter is a 2021-22 Psi Chi Model Chapter. With over 1,150 chapters, Adams State is one of 28 to achieve the Model Chapter status this year

Mark Manzanares, Ph.D., professor of counselor education and Adams State online coordinator, presented “The anatomy of a quality online module and understanding the changes in federal regulations on regular & substantive interactions and engagement in an online course,” at the Colorado Learning and Teaching (COLTT) on August 3 and 4.
Dr. Manzanares developed and produced a branding video for the SymPAWsium 2022 with the support of the SymPAWsium planning coalition and financially supported by Michael Mumper, Ph.D., and the PPHOA Title V grant. As a result of this project, The SymPAWSsium Coalition and PPHOA have created two additional videos for recruitment and branding.
Dr. Manzanares is co-chair for the SymPAWsium planning coalition to develop the SymPAWsium 2022, “Beyond Buzzword: Critical Conversations for Equity in Rural Education.” This is the kick-off event for HSI and Hispanic Heritage Month. The event will be on September 15, 16, and 17.

Bill Tite, M.F.A., assistant professor of art, presented from his “X04: Poems from the San Luis Valley” at the Alamosa Public Library on July 23, as part of an Author Soiree Reading.

Aaron Tuioti-Mariner, M.B.A. M.A., assistant professor of kinesiology, represented Adams State as a member of the Colorado DEI Consortium with the Denver Broncos. The event was hosted by the Denver Broncos VP of Diversity Equity and Inclusion, Dr. China Jude.
There were many leaders from different industries across the state including higher education institutions: University of Colorado, University of Colorado Anschutz, Metro State, Colorado School of Mines, and the Mountain West Conference.

Billy Ulibarri, Ph.D., assistant professor of sociology, co-authored an article to be published in “Violence and Victims.” The article is a mixed methods study on the effectiveness of a long-term training program for responses to sexual assault in conflict zones.
