Chris Kam, Ph.D., assistant professor of psychology published a peer reviewed article, “Commentary: Accelerating the science and practice of psychology beyond WEIRD biases: enriching the landscape through Asian psychology,” with “Frontiers in Psychology” in September.

One Stop Student Services Administrative Assistant III Jeff Gallegos, Facilities Services Custodian Jimmy Hinojos, and Facilities Services Grounds and Nursery Joe Mestas, took home multiple trophies at the Hispanic Heritage Month Fourth Annual Custom Car and Bike Show, sponsored by the Five Star Riders Car Club, during Homecoming on September 21. Mr. Hinojos took third place for his 82 Cadillac Coupe Lowrider.

In October, James Lind, D.M.A., assistant professor of music, will perform Principal Trumpet with the Pueblo Symphony.  They will premier a new work written specifically for the orchestra as well as Dvorak’s 9th Symphony, “From the New World”. “It will be a great concert and I am excited to be able to play Principal Trumpet with the group.”

School of Humanities and Social Sciences Director and Department of Psychology Chair Colleen M. Schaffner, Ph.D., co-authored the article, “Influence of maternal kinship on association network structure in a long-term study of spider monkeys (Ateles geoffroyi),” in the journal “Animal Behaviour.” She also co-authored the article, “Same-sex behavior in brown-headed spider monkeys (Ateles fusciceps fuscieps) during grappling between two subadult males,”(PDF) in the journal “Primates,” in July, 2024.

Ahmed Shafee, Ph.D., assistant professor of computer science, had two research papers accepted for publication in the proceedings of IEEE conferences. The first paper, “A Survey of Edge Computing Privacy and Security Threats and their Countermeasures,” will be published in the proceedings of the IEEE Computer Society Annual Symposium on VLSI (ISVLSI) 2024. The second paper, “Robust In-Vehicle Diagnostic-Based Intrusion Detection System,” will be published in the proceedings of the IEEE International Symposium on Networks, Computers, and Communications (ISNCC) 2024.
