The Chemistry Department is committed to providing students with significant hands-on experience using modern instrumentation and techniques. Thus, all equipment and instrumentation is available for student use.
Major items of equipment include: Thermo Nicolet Fourier transform infrared spectrometer; Perkin-Elmer FT-IR spectrometer; Shimadzu ultraviolet-visible spectrometer; Perkin-Elmer and Varian capillary gas chromatographs; Varian gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer with auto-sampling; Varian fast sequential atomic absorption spectrometer with graphite furnace and auto-sampling; Hewlett-Packard quaternary high performance liquid chromatograph; BAS cyclic voltammeter; Anasazi EFT-60 nmr spectrometer; Varian fluorescence spectrophotometer; Napco ultracentrifuge; Nitrogen and Nd-YAG lasers.
Small class sizes combined with a state of the art instrumentation laboratory provide students with ample opportunities to master their subject matter. With a chemistry degree you can head to graduate or medical school, work in industrial or government positions or teach. A degree in chemistry from Adams State University opens the door to a wide selection of careers.
