I. Academic Program Goal 1:
The Department of History, Anthropology, Philosophy, Political Science and Spanish will promote student learning in discrete courses, minor, emphasis, and degree programs (Content emphasis).
A) Learning Outcomes: The Student will
- Describe, explain, and interpret essential content appropriate to the discipline
- Apply foundational knowledge in analyzing and debating fundamental questions appropriate to the discipline.
- Explain their response to fundamental questions using appropriately structured, wells supported and effectively written paragraphs and essays.
II. Academic Program Goal 2:
The Department of History, Anthropology, Philosophy, Political Science and Spanish will provide learning opportunities for students to acquire, and assessments of student progress in acquiring an appropriate understanding of the relevant literature and scholarship in History, Government and Philosophy (Utilization and analysis emphasis).
A) Learning Outcomes: The Student will
- Discover, organize, categorize and differentiate applicable scholarly arguments appropriate to the discipline.
- Compose effective discussions that distinguish between and/or among essential and nuanced differences in the applicable scholarship.
III. Academic Program Goal 3:
The Department of History, Anthropology, Philosophy, Political Science and Spanish will provide learning opportunities for students to acquire, and assessments of student progress in acquiring appropriate skills in producing scholarly research and critical readings of scholarship (Production of scholarship emphasis).
A) Learning Outcomes: The Student will
- Define a problem appropriate to the discipline and apply and debate the appropriate scholarship.
- Analyze the extant scholarly debate using applicable research material.
- Compose and justify an argument that confirms, contradicts, or augments the informed opinion on the topic.
IV. Academic Program Goal 4:
The Department of History, Anthropology, Philosophy, Political Science and Spanish will produce graduates who attain employment as Social Studies Teachers or other professionally relevant employment and/or gain admission to Law and Graduate Schools (Placement emphasis).
A) Learning Outcomes: The Student will
- Pass the Social Studies PLACE exam
- Attain employment as a Social Studies teacher
- Earn admission to Law or Graduate School
- Obtain other professionally related employment
- Attain other professionally related employment
