Adams State University Art Department graduate students Madeleine R. Ahlborn and Christian Stearns will exhibit their thesis work in the Cloyde Snook Gallery and the Hatfield Gallery, through April 28. An opening reception will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday, April 13, in the Art Department galleries.
In her artist statement, Ahlborn asks: When you think about where your thoughts originate, where they come from, what does that space look like? She uses paint, poetry, and performance to access the realm of thought, her large scale oil paintings, spoken word poetry and a play in one act begin to scratch at the surface of the subconscious mind.
Ahlborn’s exhibit, Scape includes a one-night-only performance, I Think (not): A play in one act. Written by Ahlborn and directed in collaboration with her cast, Jordan Hannebaum, Anakay Hanold, John-Christian Maheu, and DeAnna Romero, the performance begins at 5:45 Thursday, April 13, in the Cloyde Snook Gallery.
The opening receptions, including the performance, are free and open to the public.
For his the graduate thesis, Land, Stearns’ black-and-white images capture the varied landscapes of the San Luis Valley.
