The Adams State University Theatre production The Last Flapper will feature Molly Bibeau. The one woman show, by William Luce based on the writing of Zelda Fitzgerald, wife of F. Scott Fitzgerald, will have two performances: 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4 and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, in the Xperimental Theatre.
Bibeau chose the play for her senior acting thesis after researching options for one-woman shows. "There are a lot of different options for plays on famous women in history. I came across the script about Zelda, and loved it. She has a very interesting story."
Many senior theatre majors choose to direct a play as their senior thesis. Bibeau said acting is her focus. "I have had many great opportunities in the Theatre Department, and I like directing but my passion is acting. I thought the best representation of myself is as a performer." She worked with Alexis Black, visiting assistant professor of theatre, to produce the one-act. "Alexis provides feedback and makes sure I am on the right track. She has been lovely."
The performance will last for one hour without an intermission. Bibeau believes the two performances will be a good way to showcase her talent. She has come to greatly admire Zelda Fitzgerald. "Zelda really was her own person and truly did not care what other people thought of her. I love her confidence so much. She was feminist before that word was a common term."
Originally from the Denver area, Bibeau transferred to Adams State when she heard from a friend of a friend about the program. "As soon as I clicked on the theatre department webpage it felt like the right place to be." After a tour of campus and auditioning for a spot, she knew she had found the right program for her. "Everyone was so nice and welcoming. It felt like a program at a university level. I have been very fortunate with so many of the opportunities I have had here."
Bibeau will graduate in December and plans on moving back to Denver and pursuing her acting career. "I know with all I have learned here and all the different perspectives from the professor I carry a beautiful mixed bag with me and I am well prepared for the professional acting world."
