the Grizzly Club Individual Partner of the Year. They recently raised $25,000 for student athlete scholarships by raffling off a Corvette. They visited many San Luis Valley community events this summer to promote the fund-raiser. "So many were excited to help Adams State," Janet said. "We want to thank the many who contributed to the cause," Ted added. They hope to start an endowment for athletics.
The annual Adams State University Donor and Student Recognition Dinner provides an opportunity for students to show appreciation for the continued support and generosity of donors. The event allows for the donors to be recognized and honored by the institution.
Brittani Shettron, a sophomore majoring in elementary education, spoke on behalf of all students who receive financial aid through scholarships. She has an internship through the Lucero Project, created by a generous donation from the Honorable Carlos ’61 and Dorothy ’61 Lucero, through the Adams State Foundation. The intent of the project is to place Adams State students as mentors in area elementary schools to act as role models and provide encouragement and support for students who could use extra attention. "Students benefit from great opportunities and experiences because of donors like you," Shettron said.
The heartfelt remarks and comments by the recipients of the awards reflects their passionate belief that Adams State is an institution that helps thousands of students realize their current academic and personal goals and prepares them for a successful future.
ASU Athletic Director Larry Mortensen ’88 ’93 (right) presents Mark Hensley ’89, Valley Electric Inc., with the Grizzly Club Corporate Partner of the Year. According to Mortensen, Valley Electric responds quickly when the Athletic Department needs assistance. Mark, and his wife, Dr. Stephanie Hensley ’93 ’00, assistant professor of Teacher Education, recently established an Adams State Wrestling Scholarship as well. Mark acknowledged Dick Clark who started Valley Electric and passed along the philosophy of assisting others when possible. "Thank you for the honor," he said.

ASU Foundation President Ron Howard (left) congratulates David Wehe as he accepts the ASU Foundation Willis Fassett, Jr. Award on behalf of his mother, Virginia. "My mom sends her thanks and love." She lives in California and Al passed last spring.
The Willis Fassett, Jr. Award is named for the late Willis Fassett, Jr., who was a long-time president of the Adams State University Foundation Board of Directors. The award includes the Buffalo Chant bronze, created specifically for the Foundation by the late William Moyers ’39, famous western artist.
