The Adams State University Chamber Choir will perform at the Colorado Music Educators Association Conference in Colorado Springs on January 25, at the Broadmoor.
According to Dr. Beth Robison, choir director and Adams State Music Department chair, the conference brings in hundreds of music educators, K-12, collegiate, community, and professional, from around the state and region. "This is a wonderful opportunity for us to share what we are doing at Adams State and potentially recruit new students through recommendations from the high school teachers who are present."
The concert is part of the music department’s ETHOS: Exploring Equity through Music initiative implemented last year. "ETHOS is an over-arching, multi-year project addressing equity and diversity issues in the programming of our music ensembles and development of new curricula," Robison added.
According to Robison, the program, Immigrant Stories: Hopes, Dreams and Fears in Uncertain Times, is meant to share and honor those experiences and begin a journey that starts with heritage and family, and grows into an understanding of the transcendence of global humanity when we choose to be cohesive, while recognizing the consequences when we choose division or hate.
The Adams State Chamber Choir includes Sopranos: Hannah Eubanks, Jennifer Gaona-Lorenzo, Lais Harmsen, Brittany Holcomb, Sarah Knight, Alissa Morones, Alonna Younger; Altos: Madeline Bush, Rian Carrillo, Abigail Flanigan, Cheyenne Moore, Madison Pockrus, Mirei Rodriguez, Jasmine Stewart, Elizabeth Wolters; Tenor: Skye Montoya; and Basses: Kaleb Burris, Caleb Edwards, Kelson Furman, and Nicholas Hannan.
