Adams State University has hired Joaquin Vilá, Ph.D., as its Vice President for Academic Affairs, ASU Interim President Matt Nehring announced Wednesday.
Vilá will join Adams State on July 1. He currently serves as dean of the College of Education at Northern New Mexico College in Española, N.M.
"I am very pleased to announce that Dr. Joaquin Vilá has accepted the position of Vice President for Academic Affairs," said Nehring, who in addition to serving as interim president has also been serving as interim VPAA.
"He has a wealth of experience and background in accreditation, strategic planning, and budget management," Nehring said. "We are excited to bring Dr. Vilá to Adams State. This is another positive step for the University."
Vilá has been dean of the College of Education since 2014. He has a B.A. in English from the University of Puerto Rico, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Linguistics from Michigan State University, specializing in sociolinguistics, ESL Methodology, second language acquisition, multicultural education, psycholinguistics, bilingualism, reading, and assessment.
