Adams State University Associate Professor of Business Dr. Pat Robbins recently received the Mountain-Plains Business Education Association (MPBEA) Collegiate Teacher of the Year Award. She accepted the award at the conference in Albuquerque earlier this summer.
Dr. Don Moore, a long-time educator, past president of MPBEA, and executive board member of Colorado Business Educators (CBE) nominated Robbins for the award. "I am honored to be nominated for this award, humbled to join the excellent educators who have received this honor in the past, and I extend a special thanks to Dr. Moore for his mentorship and friendship," Robbins said.
Adams State School of Business Chair Dr. Michael Tomlin said: "This is a very prestigious award and great accomplishment."
Robbins became acquainted with Moore while serving on the CBE Executive Board of Directors, first as collegiate representative beginning in 2011, and later when she served as president of the board from 2012-2014. The 2013 CBE fall conference was hosted at ASU School of Business. Robbins has been a member of NBEA (National Business Education Association) since 1995. She joined as an affiliated member; therefore, her membership in M-PBEA (Mountain-Plains Business Education Association) and CBE began at the same time.
Her nomination application included letters of support from past and present colleagues and administrators. Additional information, which was mentioned at the MPBEA Awards Ceremony, included Robbins’ outstanding contributions to education during her 21 years of teaching.
While at Trinidad State Junior College, from 1994 until 2008, Robbins served as Phi Beta Lambda Advisor for nine years; served as student government advisor for two years; chartered and served as advisor for Phi Theta Kappa (international honor society) for seven years; created and served as division chair for the Medical Assisting program; and served as coordinator for outreach with the concurrent enrollment program, maintaining contact and assistance with 14 school districts in the San Luis Valley.
Since coming to Adams State University, in 2008, Robbins has chartered and currently serves as advisor and faculty president for Sigma Beta Delta, international honor society; served as Phi Beta Lambda advisor for three years; has been a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) for two years; has published two papers in the MPBEA Journal (2012 and 2014 editions); has presented several times at the MPBEA and NBEA annual conventions, beginning in 2010; and wrote several articles for Speaks, the CBE quarterly newsletter, beginning in 2011.
Adams State alumna Carol Sessums ’83 ’91, Sangre de Cristo High School high school teacher, received the MPBEA Secondary Teacher of the Year Award.
"Adams State, Colorado, and the San Luis Valley were well-represented at the conference this year," Robbins added.
