Adams State University Chief of Police Paul Grohowski invites all campus and community members to participate in the 2016 Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) to benefit Special Olympics. It will be held Saturday, April 30, beginning at 9 a.m.
The three-mile run will begin and finish corner of First Street and Edgemont Boulevard in front of the Grizzly statue on the Adams State campus.
Local Special Olympic athletes will also participate, along with the Colorado State Patrol, Alamosa Sheriff’s Office, and the Alamosa Police Department. Law enforcement agencies around the state are holding their Torch Runs through the month of May.
"If you’re a novice runner, you are encouraged to join us. It is a slow jog, not a race, and we will have a following vehicle that you can jump into if you don’t want to run the full three miles," said Grohowski. "We always start with the Special Olympics athletes holding the torch and allow them to lead us into the finish line. We had great student and staff support last year, and hope to surpass that turnout this year."
Registration is $30 for adults; $20 for students.
Registration is also available in the lobby of the Adams State Police Dept., Petteys Hall, just north of Porter Hall on Edgemont. Torch Run participants will receive a t-shirt, which will also be for sale in the ASU Police Dept. office and the ASU Bookstore, in the Student Union.
