The Adams State University Theatre Program in partnership with the Adams State LGBTQ Faculty and Staff Coalition presents Standing Strong: The ASU Equality Project from September 25 through October 3, 2015.
Standing Strong: The ASU Equality Project celebrates efforts to create a more inclusive society by dismantling barriers to equality. Against the backdrop of the Supreme Court’s ruling in support of marriage equality, this week-long project explores diverse contemporary struggles for social justice with a specific focus on issues relevant to the LGBTQ community and its allies. Through a variety of events, this project examines where we’ve been, where we are, and where we’re going as we work to create a more perfect and just union.
Adams State’s mission is to educate, serve, and inspire our diverse populations in the pursuit of their lifelong dreams and ambitions. Standing Strong is an example of the institution’s commitment to opportunity and access for all in an environment that promotes diversity and values inclusiveness.
“As Americans, it is our continual challenge to create a society that reflects our highest ideals. When our laws treat all citizens equally, we become a better nation and we truly become more American. For nine days, this project marks the changes we’ve made as a campus, a community, state, and nation,” said Standing Strong creator Dr. John H. Taylor, professor of theatre.
