Since its founding, Adams State has created a lasting legacy for itself on the part of hardworking students, faculty, and support from the valley. Our celebration continues through to the end of the year, with more events highlighting the centennial year and the college’s historical and current significance for Alamosa and the surrounding towns.
Documenting 100 Years
In September, the college held a sneak peek and premiere of the Adams100 Documentary. The film covers the history of the college’s founding by Billy Adams to its success as an artistic, athletic, and cultural epicenter for the San Luis Valley. Interviews with many successful alumni, professors, and community members focus on the importance of Adams State. As a place of higher education and employment, the University continues to provide a growing number of opportunities for the region. The documentary describes the legacy of the first one-hundred years and what is to come.
Run of the Century
Racing through the streets of Alamosa, reliving the cross country and track and field programs from the first national championship into the future, selfies with legendary Coach Joe I. Homecoming of the Century

Adams100 Speaker Series
The first speaker was UC Berkeley Professor Ronald Rael on October 20. The free event attracted campus and community members to his lecture, “New Ways of Building.” Rael has used robots and sustainable materials to 3D print new kinds of buildings.
Coming on November 9, father and daughter, Reyes Garcia and Tania Garcia will focus their lecture, “Generations of Querencia: The Garcia Family’s Conejos County Story,” on the history and multi-generation legacy of their family in the San Luis Valley.
Craft Beer Raises Scholarship Money
Three Barrel Brewing Company and the Colorado Farm Brewery brewed special Centennial Beers in recognition of the University’s 100-year anniversary. Donations of $100 or more to the Adams100 Scholarship fund will receive a free six-pack of the special beer.
