The Adams State University Adventure Program will host Kathy Karlo who will speak about equity in the climbing community at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 2, in McDaniel Hall 101. The event is free and open to the public.
Author of the blog, For the Love of Climbing, Karlo is a freelance writer based out of Salt Lake City and originally hails from Brooklyn, NY. She travels the country to work, climb, and write. She works for No Man’s Land Film Festival, the first all-woman adventure film festival, to promote a shared vision of gender equality in the outdoor industry and beyond. She writes stories to inspire and promote empathy. Her work has been published by Alpinist and Climbing Magazine, and she is a senior contributor writer for The Climbing Zine.
Karlo also produces a podcast that delves into the power of sharing our stories, and the strength of human connection and choosing vulnerability.
Karlo will also lead a rock climbing clinic from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, in the Adams State Rex Fitness and Wellness Center.
The events were organized by Kari Vanderburg, Adams State counselor education graduate student who works at the Rex Activity Center climbing wall. The event is sponsored by the Adams State Title V Grant Initiatives.
