Leah McCromack will join senior creative writers for a reading on May 5.
Adams State University creative writing seniors, Julia Cole, Jonathan Hazard, Shelby Rushing, Shelbee Sims, and Nicholas Spencer, will share their writings during the Capstone Reading Celebration at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 5, in McDaniel Hall room 201.
Leah McCormack, assistant professor of English at ASU, will keynote the celebration and read from her creative writings. She has her Ph.D. in literature and creative writing from the University of Cincinnati and her MFA in creative writing from the City College of New York, City University of New York. Her stories have appeared or are forthcoming in Prairie Fire, Redivider, The Portland Review, Hotel Amerika, South Dakota Review, Fiction, REAL: Regarding Arts and Letters, and North Dakota Quarterly.
Comments from the students, regarding their work, includes: "Writing is more than just words explaining experiences, it too is an experience," Sims said. "Some experiences will leave you haunted while others will make you want more, either way it’s empathy." Cole said: "I write mostly weird and experimental poetry." And, "When times get hard, no matter what struggles you face, hold fast to your strongest anchors," said Hazard.
